About this deal

We test input lag using an HDFury Diva HDMI matrix, and with a 60Hz signal the U8G showed a lag of 7.9 milliseconds in the Game picture mode, well under the 20ms threshold we use to determine the best TVs for gaming. Be aware that using another picture mode, like Theater Day, bumps that number up to 102.6ms, so make sure you’re in Game mode before you start playing. Best In Class We may revise and update this EULA from time to time in our sole discretion. All changes will be posted at your Device or through update with reasonable period before they become effective. They deemed to be accepted by you unless you have notified us of your refusal within the above-mentioned period. In case of refusal you can terminate the EULA with immediate effect. In all other cases the updated EULA applies to all access to and use of the Device and the Smart Services thereafter. Disappointingly, there are fewer HDMI ports – three instead of four, but ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) are covered across all of them so you could plug a game console into any port and benefit from those features – though they are HDMI 2.0 ports, not 2.1 specified. eARC is supported on HDMI 2 for pass-through of lossless audio. Let’s start with the issue that caused the most grief with previous Hisense sets: motion. Initially the U7Q’s motion remained awkward and in Dolby Vision films there was smearing at the slightest of movements. To the extent permitted by law, this EULA shall be governed by the laws of the Germany and by accepting this EULA, and by your use of the Smart Services, you are agreeing that such EULA and all other aspects of the Smart Services will be construed in all respects in accordance with the laws of the Germany, and you agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Dusseldorf, Germany.

Updates have made the U7QF better, but not completely absolved it of motion handling issues. It lags behind other manufacturers in this regard.HDR support intends to bring better depth, detail and contrast where possible, while Dolby Atmos audio delivers cinematic audio from the speakers embedded into the TV console, with sound coming from all directions. The TV also features the same X-Fusion technology found in the 100L9G-DLT100 for over 25000 hours of entertainment. With its 20W speaker system, the A7G offers a soundstage that’s flat and not especially dynamic. Given its size, a decent soundbar is a must, but judged on its own merits it offers solid clarity with dialogue; a presentation that’s clear, crisp and pleasingly sharp but refrains from wondering into sibilant territory.

The remote is a similar effort to previous and a slight improvement as it doesn’t attempt to cram as many buttons into a small space. Features With SDR content it fires on more cylinders. As is Hisense’s trademark, images are delivered with a strong sense of colour – primary colours have the look of children’s colouring book in how punchy they look. Complexions are warmly expressed (perhaps overcooked in some places) but it makes for an attention-grabbing image. ARRAffinity cookie is set by Azure app service, and allows the service to choose the right instance established by a user to deliver subsequent requests made by that user. There are a slew of various picture setting options from brightness to picture modes. Sports lovers with a keen eye for visuals may find some usage out of the various motion enhancement and clearness modes. It’s definitely noticeable during testing as the biggest sports event in the world, the 2021 Olympics, looked gorgeous. Another great sports example is Netflix’s Naomi Osaka documentary which takes advantage of Dolby Vision and HDR10. The Hisense U7QF wasn’t built with the PS5 or Xbox Series X in mind, so you won’t find High Frame Rate (4K/120Hz), Variable Refresh Rate or Auto Low Latency Mode. Game Mode needs to be turned on manually and when it is, input lag delivers a speedy 10.5ms. Hisense U7QF performance — Bright, colourful and detailed with the right settings

The Viewing Experience

The delivery in Standard mode is deliberately flat and balanced, and while that works for everyday TV viewing, films demand more dynamism. The Theatre setting offers a bigger sound, but it isn’t one that escapes the confines of the TV. The setting also gives dialogue a slight boxed-in feel. The Hisense 65U8HQ looks more like a mid-range TV than a truly premium one. It’s much more robustly built than Hisense’s more affordable sets, but sports both a fairly chubby profile and a rather ‘meh’ grey frame and desktop stand. Hisense has been making inroads in the UK market with its affordable and feature laden TVs over the past few years, and its latest range is its most ambitious set. The 65U8QF has a few flaws, and that will affect anyone after a set for more critical viewing. Best to watch on this set during the day than at night.
