The current trophy was created for the 1999 championships and is the first permanent prize in the tournament's history. Made of 18-carat gold, the trophy is just under 37cm (14 inches) in height and weighs just over 6kg (13 pounds). It depicts two human figures holding a globe aloft. The current trophy was made by Thomas Lyte in 2014 as a perfect replica of the original trophy created in 1911. The "original" Webb Ellis Cup was not made for the Rugby World Cup. Its history dates to 1906 –well before appearing in New Zealand for the first time. Corbett eventually went on to hand the trophy over to the local police station and was detained for a while on suspicion that he might have been involved in the theft.
