About this deal

It ensures that the treated area matches the rest of the piece of furniture or flooring and restores its protective finish to help prevent future damage. Vinegar and olive oil: Mix equal parts of white vinegar and olive oil in a bowl. Dip a clean microfibre cloth in the mixture and use it to apply it to the stain, rubbing gently in the direction of the wood grain. Let the cleaning solution sit for a few hours or overnight, then wipe it off. The stain should be lighter and less noticeable.

Next, find a white tea towel that is smooth in texture to prevent leaving a textured imprint in the wood. This is especially important on soft, varnished woods. The moisture can also react with the tannins in the wood, creating a chemical reaction that can result in a white or gray discoloration on the surface. For deeper marks the Ring remover can be applied with Priory Polishes Fine Steel Wool (Grade 0000).

How to use Rustins Ring Remover

Placing a hot or cold object directly onto a wooden surface can cause the wood to expand or contract, which can result in condensation forming on the surface. We use a third-party courier service who have a strict policy on abuse or harassment towards their drivers. In any case where there is abuse or harassment, the driver is within their rights to refuse delivery. Applying an oil-based product is another approach you can try. The natural oils found in everything from Vaseline to olive oil and even mayonnaise, will seep into the surface of the wood and help trapped moisture escape. For heat marks, mix one part toothpaste with two parts bicarb to form a paste. Apply to the stain, leave for 10 minutes, then wipe off with a cloth. That said, the mayonnaise was a real surprise here —who would have thought it? Be prepared to see an alarming grease mark after using though. I found this was easily cleaned away though.

Ironing method: Place a clean, white cloth or towel over the moisture stain and set your iron to its lowest heat setting. Gently iron the cloth, moving it in circular motions for about 15 to 20 seconds. The heat from the iron will help lift the moisture from the wood, removing the white stain from its surface. Pour the Rustins Ring Remover onto a lint free cloth and rub with pressure over the mark in the direction of the grain until the mark is removed.

The rings pretty much completely disappeared. (Image credit: Future/Natasha Brinsmead) My conclusion The verdict: This one was a bit hit and miss in all honesty. While it did nothing on the ingrained dark water stain, I did have huge success in removing white water rings from some bedside tables and all it took was a gentle rub. It also made a difference to some light water stains on the wooden frame of our bi fold doors so definintely worth a go on lighter, fresher stains. Other suggestions from cleaning enthusiasts included using olive oil, walnuts and a damp tea towel and a hot iron. I love mayonnaise when mixed with prawns, but to remove stains...really? I had always thought of mayo as being something that caused stains rather than removed them.
